Meet Willie. Willie is a young male dachshund-mix (possibly Chihuahua?) with a sweet, happy, and easy-going personality. He loves everyone, people, other dogs and he even gets along with the family cat, now that he has been trained to accept the fact that the cat belongs to his foster family. At first he didn’t believe that the cat should be in the house, but after he learned the rules he has accepted that the cat belongs in the family, although they will never be best friends. Willie should not go to a home with cats because he still growls once in a while when the cat walks past. I would not trust them alone together. Willie loves to play. He plays with anyone who will play with him. He and Cosmo, his Border Collie foster brother fly around the house and really enjoy their games. He also loves to sleep on his foster parents laps when he has tired himself out with his games. He follows his people from room to room, always wanting to be involved in whatever is going on. Willie is also house trained. He has never had an accident in the house and he has never marked his territory (except around the edges of the yard to warn off intruders I suppose). He doesn’t bark a lot either. He greets people when they come into the house, but he is quite nice about it. It is more like he is announcing that we have company.
Willie was found wandering around a busy highway. A nice person was concerned about him and took Willie home with him but was unable to keep him because he had too many dogs already. He asked that Dixie Dachshund Rescue take Willie and find a good home for him. Willie is heartworm negative and currently on heartworm prevention. He is also up to date on all of his shots. He was quite thin because he was homeless for a while but has put on some weight now that he is getting regular meals. Willie will sleep in a crate if he has to, but he much prefers the people bed.
