Meet Pirate! He's the SWEETEST boy and loves to give lots of kisses to everyone. Pirate is a 11.5 year-old male black and tan smooth haired standard, about 22 lbs and is neutered, current on shots and on heartworm prevention.
Pirate came to us from a kill shelter in South Florida. He was heartworm positive, had hookworms, a SEVERE upper respiratory infection, eye infection and another infection that caused him to have brown urine. THANKS TO THE LOVE AND CARE of his wonderful foster mom, he is free and clear of his heartworms, all infections have been cleared for awhile now, and he now only has “dry eye” that requires a couple of drops twice a day to keep his eye “wet with tears”. He takes his drop AWESOMELY – he’s such a good little boy! Isn’t he a BEAUTIFUL boy? See what TLC can do for these precious babies!
Pirate loves the other dogs in his foster home – both big and small. He will bathe the other dogs with kisses too. Pirate is very, very, very gentle. He loves to play fetch and to have his belly rubbed. He loves his yellow tennis balls and LOVES to play tug of war. He is NOT mischievous and doesn’t destroy things – NOT EVEN HIS TOYS! He does love to hide his toys between couch cushions though – WHAT A CUTIE! He will also talk to you when you get home, and will REALLY talk to you if you aren't paying attention to him when he wants you. All he wants is love, love, love.
Pirate is house trained although he may mark some in the beginning if he goes into a house with other male dogs. He has the cutest overbite and when he lies on his belly, he looks like Buckwheat. His teeth were filed, though, to prevent any problems with the overbite.
Pirate loves to sleep at the foot of the bed. He is a GREAT bed buddy – he stays on his side and doesn’t take up the whole bed! He will sleep in a kennel and kind of likes having his “own space” – although like any other doxie – he DOES prefer sleeping in the big bed with his person! He digs like he's on his way to China, so he MUST ALWAYS be supervised when outside in a fenced backyard, and of course, always on a leash when not in a fence.
Pirate has also been cat tested! He really doesn’t care one way or the other about them! He mostly ignores them!
