Hi, I’m Jackson.
I’m dashingly handsome, even if I do say so myself. How many times have we all not heard that beauty only goes skin deep? Well, that does not apply to me! I’m a precious little angel through and through. Just ask my foster mommy and everyone who has met me. I’m a sweetheart, very loveable and affectionate. I can certainly provide references to that affect upon request. How’s that for starters? Woof!
I have since found out that my dashing good looks are called double dapple which results from bad breeding or inbreeding. Many like me are actually born blind or deaf. Gosh, I was lucky then! I do have one defect, a missing eye. Adds to my charm for sure, and probably saved me from being used to make more special looking dachshunds like me. I can’t remember what exactly happened, but do know it does not bother me one bit, neither does it require any corrective surgery. Thank goodness, because after what I went through to get back on my feet from intestinal parasites and severe emaciation, I’d rather play and find a cozy lap to nap in the rest of my life. I’m also fully vetted, on monthly heartworm medication, and up to date on shots.
I was turned into a local kill shelter by my previous mommy. I lived with her for only a month and then she gave up on me! Is that what parents do to their children these days? She claimed I was not housebroken. I tried to tell her that since she bought me from a local backyard breeder, I had never been given the chance to learn manners, and neither was I neutered. DUH! I’m smart as a whip, quick on my feet and eager to please, but that was not good enough. She did not try to help me, but rather left me at a high kill shelter and never looked back. I was so sad and devastated! Thankfully my rescue angel, who is also my foster mommy, saved my life and put me on the path to the charmed life I have always wanted!
I’m now fully housebroken and let my foster mommy know when I have to go. All I needed was a chance, see? I do need to go out on a regular schedule. Well, don’t we all? I sometimes have to be reminded to go, though, once outside. Well, there is just so much to do out there, like chase birds and squirrels and check out every corner of the yard every chance I get. Not sure about cats, but my prey drive so far tells me I’m better off in a home with no cats. Plus I love, love, did I say, LOVE, to play? You name it, chase squeak toys, balls, and play with other dogs. Most of my foster mommy’s dogs are happier just lying around. Not me! Daylight’s A Burnin’! I’d love to have a playmate or two near my age so we can romp and play to our heart’s delight, and then nap. Same goes for running. Boy, that just makes me feel so full of life and fun! I’m very eager to get outside. Any door is an opportunity to get out and run, so to keep me safe, I really must have a fenced in yard, with locks on all gates. Baby gates are a cinch to climb, too. This then means no children for me, because you know how they just open doors to see what’s on the other side. Well, that gives me that same chance. And since I love to run, I would be far gone in no time and not be able to find my way back.
I love individualized attention, so want to live somewhere where I can spend lots of time with my family. When I’m not playing I want to be in your lap and sleep near you. That’s the nap thingie I mentioned earlier. *Big Grin* One of my favorite things is to curl up under the blanket very close to you so I can touch you. That really makes me feel loved and secure. I would love my new parents to be home a lot. If you work all day, can you come home at lunch and make sure to spend time with me nights and weekends? That would be wonderful! I am crate trained, but the less time in a crate, the better. I guess it reminds me of my days living with that breeder and first mommy.
That about sums it up. If you are interested, please fill out the application and list my name as the dog in which you are interested. I’m being fostered in Huntsville, AL and if you need further information, please email karenb@kw.com.
