Earl is heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative and he is current on all vaccinations.
Earl is a charming little gentleman. He is completely potty trained and has very nice doggie manners. He was found as a stray in a public park in Mobile and taken to the shelter there. Sadly no one came to claim Earl and his time at the shelter had run out. Fortunately, Dixie Dachshund Rescue was able to take him in and his life was saved. Earl enjoys going for rides (he doesn’t care where you go as long as you take him with you). He also likes to go on walks but lately his foster mom has been too lazy to take him out. She says it is because it is too hot but he suspects she is using that as an excuse because she wants to sleep late.
Earl does like to explore on his own so he will need to have a home with a securely fenced yard. Earl gets along very well with his foster brothers and sisters and since he is feeling more secure in his foster home now he has even started to play. He will stand up for himself when one of the others tries to take his food, but otherwise he is a very mellow natured fellow. So far Earl doesn’t bark very often but that may change if he stays around his foster brothers and sisters for very long. For right now, however, he is a fairly quiet little guy.
One of Earl's foster brothers was given a bunny. He didn't really care about the toy but Earl fell in love with the lavender bunny. He carries it around and he chews on it but he doesn't destroy it. When one of the other dogs tries to play with the bunny, Earl chases them away. When it is time to go to bed he is quite happy to go into his crate as long as bunny is there to keep him company. While he will sleep in his crate with his bunny, he does prefer sleeping in the big bed with his people. When Earl is adopted his bunny must go with him to help him adjust to his new home.
Earl does not like cats at all. He and his foster mom have had several discussions about this matter but Earl has not changed his mind at all. Earl cannot go to a home with cats. Earl likes to curl up on the couch with his foster mom when the family is watching TV and relaxing in the evening.
