Hi – I’m Benny! AREN’T I ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS? I was at a shelter and was heartworm positive – with no hope of being adopted. Then a wonderful person took me in as a foster, a bunch of people donated for my heartworm treatment – and I thought I was on my way to be put up for permanent adoption. BUT – that foster parent’s situation changed – and I really couldn’t stay; so DDR took me in and a wonderful foster mom volunteered to foster me. SO – here I am – all vaccinated; heartworm free and on prevention – and neutered!
I am VERY, VERY, VERY loving and affectionate. I love to be held and petted and loved on. You can melt me if you love on me!!! My foster mom says I am very smart and playful. I love my toys but I do tend to want to keep them all to myself (I never had toys before!! – I can’t help it!) I love to play fetch, though. I am a GOOD listener, too, and my foster mom has taught me how to sit and stay. Isn’t that great! I have been playing with the other dogs at my foster mom’s house, too, and am learning to get along with all of them; although I wanted to beat up the big one! He kind of scared me – but he’s just a “gentle giant” and I really hurt his feelings. I feel bad now!
I really don’t like kids, so I am going to have to go to a home with no children – or older, responsible teenagers. I am really shy at first; it takes me a moment to warm up to people. My foster mom thinks I may have been abused before; I really don’t remember – I really want to forget my past life!
At night, I like to sleep in the bottom of my foster mom’s closet – I feel safe there! I don’t like the crate at night because everyone else is home and roaming the house! I don’t mind the crate when my foster family is gone – makes me feel safe – but not at night when everyone else is not in a crate.
I do have a few “less than perfect” traits – but I’m a Dachshund! I am a bolter – SO no open doors, questionable fences, or off leash for me! That just WON’T WORK! It’s up to you to keep me safe. I’m also still working on complete housebreaking. I’m getting there – but I don’t think I was kept in a house before being fostered, AND I wasn’t neutered until DDR took me in – so I still have to get past all that. But I’m smart – and I’m learning. But – you know Dachshunds. NONE of us are COMPLETELY house-trained!
That about sums it up. If you are interested, please fill out the application and list my name as the dog in which you are interested. I’m being fostered in Scottsboro, AL and if you need further information, please email karenb@kw.com.
